Client Overview
Client name/Industry: JSW Steel (Dolvi Plant), one of India’s largest private steel manufacturers
Sector: Steel Melt Shop
Location: Dolvi, Maharashtra
Scale: 15 MTPA
Why did they choose us?
Anupam has been a long-time supplier to the JSW Group with a proven track record. Our expertise in heavy-duty, high-capacity cranes made us a strong choice for their critical material-handling requirements.
The Challenge
Problem Statement:
JSW required the highest-capacity EOT crane for their most critical shed, the Steel Melt Shop. This demanded a crane capable of handling extreme loads with minimal downtime while operating reliably in the harsh conditions of a steel plant.
Key Requirements
- High load capacity
- Continuous duty cycle
- Redundancy for operation and safety
- Precise control in a hostile environment
Solution: Main Hoist Mechanism
- The main hoist mechanism is equipped with four motors and two planetary gearbox systems.
- Four motors drive through two gearboxes with in-built planetary gears.
- Rope drums are mechanically connected through a bull gear, ensuring synchronized drum motion.
Motor Sizing:
- Motors are selected in standard sizes across all four units, reducing both initial and maintenance costs.
Gearbox Sizing:
- Use of two planetary gear units allows for a more compact gearbox design.
Operational Reliability
- UIf one main hoist motor fails, the crane operates at half the rated hoist speed with 100% load using the remaining motors.
- If two main hoist motors fail, the crane continues operation at half speed with the remaining two motors at100% load.
- If the input pinion of one main hoist gearbox fails, the crane maintains 100% redundancy, operating at half speed with full load using the alternate planetary gear train.
Safety Maintenance Advantages
- The system is highly reliable, as all service brakes and the rope drum gear train contribute to electro-mechanical braking in case of any mechanical failure between the motor and rope drum.
- Simplified maintenance with fewer spare parts required. 100% fail-safe operation with no free fall under any condition.
- No requirement for an emergency disc brake on the rope drums.
